The Azienda Agricola Il Borghetto is a 30 hectare estate, comprising of olive groves, vineyards and woodland.
The twelve hectares of olive groves are cultivated with a number of different species of Tuscan olive trees famed for the quality of their oil, including: Morellino, Frantoiano, Pendolino and Leccino.
The olives are hand picked during the months of October and November and the production of extra virgin olive oil amounts to about 2.000 litres per year.
The six or so hectares of vineyards sit close to top of the ridge at La Collina, facing south and west towards the Val di Pesa.
The grape varieties planted are for the most part Sangiovese, with a small percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Azienda Agricola Il Borghetto produces four red wines:
Chianti Classico Bilaccio, Chianti Classico Riserva, IGT Toscana Collina 21 and IGT Toscana Rosie.
The vineyard and the winery are managed by oenologist Tim Manning, aided and abetted by Giacomo Innocenti, Claudio Bencivenni and, of course, Giovanni Ciappi. All the daily operations are keenly overseen by estate manager, Antonio Cavallini.
It’s possible to visit the winery and sample some of the wines, by appointment, except during the busy harvest period (September – October). |
