2003 was our first vintage at Il Borghetto and so production is still in its early stages. As we’ve started from scratch, we have been able to tailor the winemaking to suit the most important thing of all, the vineyards.
There are about twenty or so small blocks of vineyard at Il Borghetto, each differing slightly from the other, be it in grape variety or clone, or a difference in soil type and slope aspect.
The idea is to treat each one as a separate entity so that their individual characters can contribute a particular something to the final blend. To that extent we ferment, press, rack and barrel-down each vineyard block separately.

2005 Vintage
Another typical Chianti vintage, maybe a touch warmer than 2004, resulting in slightly riper grapes but still producing wines of elegance and character. This was a year when quantities were well down on previous years, but with quality more than making up for a lack in volume. We expect 2005 wines to be slightly fuller bodied than 2004, and with potential to produce slightly more 2005 Riserva. The Rosie 2005 will sadly not be making an appearance. We just don’t have enough Merlot!
The Chianti Classico Bilaccio and Collina 21 IGT 2005 should be bottled around May 2007 with release towards the end of the year.

2006 Vintage
A little too early to be commenting on the 2006 wines, although suffice to say, thanks to a text-book season from budbreak in April to harvest in October, things bode well for making 2006 a truly great Chianti vintage.
